MYSORE: In a sudden development, the Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB), which had announced to receive objections on its proposal to develop the Hebbal lake bed area for industrial purposes on Friday, put off the one-day drive organised at its office at Metagalli. Although reasons for putting off the drive were not known, it was learnt that the board, which had drawn criticism for its move to develop industrial sites on the lake bed area, might have come under “pressure” to postpone the drive and “hold back” its plans since many organisations, including the Mysore City Corporation, the Mysore Industries Association (MIA), the Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha (KRRS) decided to file their objections to the move. KIADB officials did not give reasons for putting off the drive. Board assistant secretary Chikkaiah who in-charge of the project had become incommunicado. However, an official at KIADB office told The Hindu that the meeting had been postponed for “unavoidable” reasons. The Mysore City Corporation council, which unanimously resolved to oppose the Hebbal lake development for industries, filed its objection on Friday despite the board putting off the drive. In the objection, the corporation urged the development officer of the KIADB to desist from developing sites on the lake bed area.
