Over 1,000 students will exhibit their talents

25 events on the cards
Cultural rally planned

TIRNELVELI: The premises of Manonmaniam Sundaranar University’s Abhishekapatti campus will witness song, dance, music, skit, mimicry etc. during this weekend as Department of Youth Welfare conducts the 16th youth festival.

More than 1,000 students from various colleges will exhibit their talents in 25 events to enthral the audience and win laurels to their institutions.

While the best performing college in Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari and Tuticorin districts will get a rolling trophy each, another trophy will be presented for the overall championship.

“While Kamaraj College of Tuticorin, St. Xavier’s College of Palayamkottai and S.T. Hindu College of Nagercoil won the trophies last for their best performance, trophy for the overall championship was bagged by S.T. Hindu College. Hence, we anticipate a close competition this year as other potential colleges from Tirunelveli and Tuticorin districts are likely to pose a tough challenge for the defending champions,” said Director, Department of Youth Welfare, MSU, X. Rosary Mary.

Before the competitions, 1,050 participants from 42 colleges will take out a cultural rally. Though the Department of Youth Welfare had asked the students to exhibit their talents in 26 events, nobody came forward to compete in the ‘Swara Vaadhya’ category. “So we’ve been forced to conduct only 25 events,” Dr. Rosary Mary said.
