Awards for 5 persons from State

HYDERABAD: Five prominent persons from the State got the coveted Padma awards. ‘Superstar’ Krishna (Ghattamaneni Sivarama Krishna Murthy) got the Padma Bhushan, while those who got Padma Sri include comedian Kanneganti Brahmanandam, ophthalmologist Alampur Saibaba Goud, social worker Bilkees Idris Latif, wife of former Chief of Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal I.H. Latif and progressive farmer Goriparthi Narasimha Raju Yadav.

For popular film star Mr Krishna it was the most cherished award.

He acted in 350 films, directed 18 and produced several more.

He is known for playing some emorable roles on screen, including Alluri Seetharama Raju.

Brahmanandam’s latest release, ‘King’ directed by Srinu Vytla comes after 816 films that he worked in, starting from ‘Tatavataram Katha’ directed by the late Vejella Subramanyam in 1985. He has the distinction of entering the Guinness Book of World Records as an actor with the maximum number of films.

Alampur Saibaba Goud, an ophthalmologist and chairman of the City-based Devnar Foundation for the Blind, the Padma Sri comes as a crowning glory climaxing 30 years of service to the visually challenged and leprosy patients.

Bilkees Latif has carved out a niche for herself as a social worker. Yadav (67) of Guduru in Krishna district, has a record in rice, groundnut and black gram production.
