Salem: SRM University, Chennai, scored a thrilling 40-37 win over PSG College of Arts and Science, Coimbatore, and wrested the third spot in the men’s section of the fourth all Tamil Nadu collegiate basketball tournament, organised by the Babu Shankar Memorial Basketball Club and the Abhinav Trust, at the Holy Cross School grounds on Monday.

The results: Men: Third place: SRM University 40 (Sathish Kumar 18, Diesel 14) bt PSG CAS 37 (Akilan 14, Nilhin Kumar 11). Semifinals: Jeppiar 69 (S. Balamurugan 18) bt PSG CAS 38 (Nilhin Kumar 12).

Women: Round robin league: PSGR Krishnammal 51 (P. Paun 11) bt Sethu Tech 38 (A. Tamarai Selvi 15), Sethu Tech 41 (K. Jeevitha 13, S. Sumathi 11) bt SRM 35 (V. Rahila Begum 10), MOP Vaishnav (Chen) 71 (Alagu Tamil Mozhi 21, Shangeetha 15) bt PSGR Krishnammal 33.

Narrow win for GEC

Government Engineering College scored a six-run win over Ganesh College in the SDCA inter-collegiate cricket tournament at the Neelambal Subramanian HSS grounds on Monday.

The scores: Dept. of Periyar University 160 for four in 25 overs (Govindan 62) bt Vinayaka Mission DC 143 (Govindan three for 42), Vinayaka Mission Medical 133 in 25 overs lost to Jairam CAS 134 for four in 19.1 overs, Ganesh College 140 in 25 overs bt Govt. Engineering College 134 for eight in 25 overs, A.A. Arts College (Attur) 113 in 25 overs lost to Maha EC 114 for eight in 23.5 overs.

BAIT wins

In Coimbatore, Bannari Amman Institute of Technology (Sathyamangalam) defeated SKCET 2-0 in the Tech hockey league for the Major Dhyan Chand Memorial Trophy at the PSG Tech grounds on Sunday.

The results: Pool ‘A’: Bannari Amman IT 2 (R. Ranjith, M. Akash Prithvi) bt SKCET 0. Pool ‘C’: MCET 1 (S. Sivakumar) drew with GCT 1 (N. Shanmugam).
