MANGALORE: Sri Ram Sene State vice-president Prasad Attavara was produced before the Second Additional District and Sessions Judge Sanjeev K. on Tuesday along with nine of his supporters. The defence lawyer moved a bail petition for the accused. The prosecution filed for police custody. Hearing has been adjourned till Wednesday. So far, 27 Sri Ram Sene activists have been arrested in connection with the attack on a pub on January 24 and they will together appear in court on Wednesday. Another four Sri Ram Sene activists have been arrested in connection with the second attack on the same day where a house was raided and its inmates brutalised for holding a private party. Meanwhile, the court granted interim anticipatory bail to Dinakar Shetty, legal advisor of the Sri Ram Sene, who is reported to be absconding. Earlier, Director-General and Inspector-General of Police R. Sri Kumar visited the city and held meetings with top police officials. Addressing a citizen’s gathering, he said: “These attacks are most worrisome. If one is not allowed to sit in a pub and enjoy themselves, it is very bad.” When some anxious parents told him that they feared for the safety of their daughters after the pub incident, he said: “It is the duty of the parents to ensure the safety of their children.” In a press interaction, he said: “We are as good as our resources. If we are given third world resources then we can provide only third world service.” When asked about the Sri Ram Sene president Pramod Mutalik, who has been making statements lauding the outfits actions in the city, Mr. Sri Kumar said: “Everybody has the democratic right to say what they want.” He dismissed the recent attacks in the city as trivial and a product of “media hype” even as he said: “You cannot expect the police to use a sledgehammer to swat a fly.”
