‘Police shielding culprits in double murder case’

Police try to stop protesters on city outskirts

KARIMNAGAR: In a courageous act, the villagers of Thimmapur mandal have raised a voice of revolt against the district police for lethargy on their part in the detection of a double murder case by staging a massive dharna and rasta roko at RTC bus station area in Karimnagar town on Tuesday.

Alleging that the police were shielding the culprits involved in the murder case for property gain, several hundreds of villagers from Thimmapur mandal have arrived in Karimnagar town by around 20 tractors to stage a dharna.

At this moment, the police tried to prevent their entry into the town by obstructing them at the NTR statue on the outskirts. The villagers mostly women arrived at the bus station complex and staged a massive rasta roko for over one hour demanding the arrest of the culprits.

It may be recalled that the couple K Laxmipathi (38) and his wife Sunitha (30) were brutally killed by unidentified persons over property dispute on January 5 in Gundlacheruvupalli village of Thimmapur mandal. The victims’ children Kalyan (10) was studying in Karimnagar hostel and Karthik (8) was with the parents when the incident took place. Karthik, who survived by pretending to be asleep, is a key witness in the case.

Following the testimony of the surviving son, the police initially arrested some suspected persons and later released.

The villagers alleged that the police had colluded with the accused and let them go scot-free in spite of dog squads pointing the suspicion at them. The villagers also feared that the culprits might eliminate the orphaned two sons.
