TIRUCHI: Fostering innovation-driven entrepreneurship through incubation and research by students, Bharathidasan University Technology Park (BUTP) is poised to launch an Incubation Centre. The facility within the university campus will be of high utility to students to earn while learning and subsequently to launch their own enterprises and create jobs rather than seeking employment in other industries, according to BUTP Director Gopinath Ganapathy. Through incubation and mentoring, the Centre will facilitate conversion of technology into commercially viable products. Against the backdrop of the excessive dependence of Indian IT companies on Western countries and the crisis they face due to the worsening of their economies, Indian IT firms need to re-establish themselves as global leaders with new products and solutions, he said. Mr. Gopinath is optimistic about such initiatives leading to replication of success stories of Fortune 500 companies including Microsoft and Google. The Centre, he said, would provide infrastructure support (office space, connectivity, technical equipment and server), networking for technology commercialisation, legal and auditing support, and mentoring, to final year MCA students. By the time the students create a full-fledged firm in a year, the successive batch will don their mantle. The BUTP motivation has already reflected in the launch of student-run software company, ‘TechCmantiX Technologies’. A technology-based start-up company, TechCmantiX specialises in corporate web development, software development, graphic design, digital marketing and search engine optimisation. The clients of this company include Data Caliper, WE4INDIANS Consulting Services, Leaders.co.in, Bishop Heber College, Rooman Technologies, Sri Chakra Real Estates, Kavitha Traders, Fathima Matriculation Higher Secondary School and MpowerForce Mobile Technology. The company is managed by four students: Ganesh Ananthan, Divyaprakash, Shiyam Kumar and Jeeva Kanagaraj.
