CHENNAI: Parry’s off-spinner N. Raghavendran (six for 69), Young Stars left-arm spinner L. Ganesh (five for 34), and Jolly Rovers opening batsman S. Vidyut (100) shone, as the sixth round of the TNCA first-division cricket league got underway here on Tuesday. Rahil Shah (three for 30) complemented Raghavendran’s effort at Murugappa to help Parry’s dismiss Aruna for 149 in 64 overs. In reply, Parry’s ended day one on 63 for four from 32 overs. Ganesh and right-arm seamer S. Senthilnathan (three for 64) combined to bowl Globe Trotters out for 195 at Pachaiyappa’s ‘A’. Y. Gnaneswara Rao (70, 192b, 9x4) and wicketkeeper U. Sushil (61, 113b, 11x4) added 119 for the fourth wicket for Trotters. At IIT-Chemplast, Vidyut stood firm during his 197-ball stint (11x4) and J. Gowjith Subash made 54 (78b, 9x4) but Jolly Rovers was dismissed for 261 by Grand Slam. Left-arm spinner V. Arun Kumar took three wickets in the space of seven balls for Grand Slam. Rovers did however extract a wicket before close. Solid battingHalf-centuries from P. Satish (93, 191b, 12x4, 1x6), E. Suresh (82 batting, 166b, 4x4, 2x6), and S. Dinesh Kumar (53 batting, 89b, 7x4, 1x6) helped Indian Bank end strongly on 307 for four against Southern Railway Institute. The Indian Bank innings was built on three partnerships of over 80 for the second, third, and fifth wicket (unbroken). Off-spinner A.K. Balachander, a first-year student of Vivekananda College, returned figures of three for nine on first-division debut, as Vijay dismissed UFCC (T. Nagar) for 124 in 50 overs. Vijay got to within three runs of UFCC’s score in response. Alwarpet bundled outIndia Pistons seamers Ganapathy Chandrasekhar (four for 24) and M.R. Shrinivas (three for 15) wrecked Alwarpet at CPT-IP. The first eight wickets fell for just 22 runs before D. Vasu and R. Raguram resisted with a 44-run partnership. Pistons wicketkeeper K.H. Gopinath registered five dismissals (4 ct, 1 st). Alwarpet struck back, reducing Pistons to 21 for three before R. Srinivasan’s unbeaten 54 (147b, 9x4) rescued the team.
