NEW DELHI: In an incident smacking of regionalism, Ramjas College Students’ Union vice-president Abhishek Pandey was beaten up allegedly by a batch-mate and two accomplices near the college gate on Delhi University’s North Campus on Tuesday. The police have launched a hunt for the accused. According to Abhishek, Gaurav Gulati, a hosteller, along with two other young men intercepted him around 1-45 p.m. near the gate when he came out of the college library. The accused hurled parochial abuses at Abhishek and then attacked him with a sharp-edged weapon. A third year student, Abhishek sustained injuries on the chest, following which the accused fled. The victim went to Bara Hindu Rao Hospital where his medico-legal certificate was prepared. Based on his complaint and the medical report, the police have registered a case and are trying to trace the three accused. Abhishek alleged that around 4 p.m. some students of Ramjas College also attacked the vice-president and secretary of the Law Faculty Students’ Union as they came out in his support. “We have informed the police,” he said.
