There was a ruckus at TP meeting on January 28 Guidelines for tender procedure blamed Karwar: Members of Haliyal Taluk Panchayat condemned the behaviour of some political activists at the meeting on Wednesday. Cutting across party lines, members condemned the behaviour of some of the political activists who created a ruckus in the tender hall and misbehaved with the officials. The meeting resolved to take action against the contractors and the political activists who caused trouble during the tenders in future. Some contractors and members of the Janata Dal (Secular) and the Congress behaved in an unruly manner on Tuesday alleging that the procedure was not followed during the tenders. Members of the Congress and the Janata Dal (Secular) even exchanged blows, it was said. The police had to intervene to restore peace. The taluk panchayat members condemned the incident. Addressing a meeting of the taluk panchayat, the standing committee chairman Satyajeet Giri said funds had been equally distributed to all wards of the town. The letters with details of the proposed works and the funds released were sent to all members of the panchayat. Some vested interests were trying to create confusion by spreading falsehood. He said the priority of the taluk panchayat was to maintain the quality of works. The Opposition member Srikant Huli said the package system in the tenders was causing injustice to small contractors. Had the small contractors brought it to the notice of the town panchayat then a solution could have found with the consultation of the Deputy Commissioner, he said. He alleged that the single guideline given by the Government relating to the tender procedure was the reason for this confusion. He alleged that whenever the taluk panchayat sent the proposal for the works which were in public interest, the Deputy Commissioners rejected them.
