BHUBANESWAR: The stage is set for the two-day kite flying festival in the capital on Saturday followed by Sunday at the Capital High School playground in the heart of the city. The first event of its kind for the city, it is being organised by the newly-formed Bhubaneswar Kite Lovers and Flyers Association. Although the neighbouring city of Cuttack has been famous for kite flying, the capital did not have an ambience to encourage the highly-popular hobby. The annual festival will bridge that gap, according to association secretary Niranjan Praharaj. The festival has instituted two titles -- Guddi-Raja (King of kite flying) and Guddi-Ranee (Queen of kite flying) that will be conferred on the best flyers in male and female categories, says association vice-president Rama Ballav Rath.
