Vinita Nedungadi KOCHI: Edassery Govindan Nair’s Poothapattu will come alive with the steps of Mohiniyattam by dancer Vinitha Nedungadi at a programme organised by the Bank Employees Arts Movement, Ernakulam (BEAME) on Friday. Vinita Nedugadi’s performance, the first one in the new year by BEAME, is expected to be a presentation of creative innovations by the dancer, who is known for keeping the tradition of the dance style intact. Poothapattu, based on the North Malabar folk art called Poothanum Thirayum — the poetic presentation of a mother’s love for her child, is said to be one of best literary creations in Malayalam. Vinita would be attempting to put the emotions in dance form. Another item would be the adaptation of folk songs by Kavalam Narayana Panikkar, Karu Kare Kar Mukil Kombileri Varum … Interpretations of a few other folk songs; Varshamohini, a depiction of different moods of rain are some innovations from Vinita’s repertoire. A disciple of Kalamandalam Kshemavathy, she is the daughter of litterateur P. Narendranath. The 315th programme by BEAME will be at the Ernakulam Fine Arts Hall at 6.30 p.m.
