CITU bid to storm Collectorate foiled

Special Correspondent

KADAPA: The Kadapa police arrested some CITU and Village Servants Association leaders when they tried to storm the Collectorate by scaling the gate during picketing on Thursday.

CITU district secretary A. Ramamohan and leaders -- C. Babu, S.V. Ramana -- and Village Servants Association leaders were arrested and shifted toChinna Chowk and Kadapa One Town police stations. The police allegedly pulled out the pandals put up by the agitators.

The CITU leaders alleged that the police foiled the democratic agitation on the directions of Revenue Minister Dharmana Prasada Rao. Criticising Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, they accused him of ignoring his promises.

Telugu Desam Party leaders Ameer Babu, K. Balakrishna Yadav and CPI(M) leader B. Narayana led a protest rally from Zion College circle to the Collectorate. The leaders demanded that the Chief Minister enhance the pay of village servants, who have been discharging duties on paltry salaries.
