Former MLA surrenders

Special Correspondent

VISAKHAPTANAM: Former MLA of Ramachandrapuram in East Godavari district Thota Trimurtulu and three others surrendered before the Judge of the Special Court for cases under the SC and ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act here on Thursday after the court issued non-bailable warrants against them on Wednesday.

Judge C. Vijayachandra Acharyulu recalled the NBWs after the accused pleaded that they could not attend the court on Wednesday due to illness. The case was adjourned to February 6.

It may be recalled that Mr. Trimurthulu, then in TDP and now with Praja Rajyam, was accused of ordering tonsuring of an SC person Kota Chinna Raju of Venkatarayapuram village on December 29, 1996 for which he was arrested. .

The government’s G.O. giving relief to Mr. Trimurthulu was struck down by the High Court after the victim filed a plea and the stay was vacated.
