Case of suicide attempt against Fiza

Special Correspondent

She reportedly consumed over 30 sleeping pills on Thursday morning

Fiza had alleged that her husband had been kidnapped at the behest of his younger brother

Chand Mohammed had told the media and Mohali police that he was safe

CHANDIGARH: The Mohali police have registered a case of suicide attempt against Fiza aka Anuradha Bali, the second wife of former Haryana Deputy Chief Minister Chand Mohammed aka Chander Mohan. Ms. Fiza, who reportedly consumed over 30 sleeping pills on Thursday morning, was rushed to the Government Medical College in Sector 32 here by her family and friends. Later in the day she was stated to be out of danger. Mohali Police officers told the media that they had not been permitted by the doctors yet to record a statement by Fiza who had alleged on Wednesday that her husband had been kidnapped at the behest of his younger brother Kuldeep Bishnoi who heads the Haryana Janhit Congress. However, Mr. Chand Mohammed, Congress MLA from Kalka and elder son of former Haryana Chief Minister Bhajan Lal, had contacted the media and the Mohali police telephonically on Wednesday afternoon and stated that he was safe and had gone on his own after sending an SMS to Ms. Fiza.

According to reports reaching the State headquarters here, Mr. Chand Mohammed was reportedly spotted in New Delhi on Wednesday evening. Interestingly, he did not contact either the media nor Ms. Fiza on Thursday till the filing of this report.

Meanwhile, the Bhajan Lal family, which had disowned Mr. Chander Mohan after his second marriage and conversion to Islam, is understood to have sent ``feelers” to the estranged elder son, reliable sources said. Mr. Chander Mohan had virtually disappeared after Diwali last year and had resurfaced along with Ms. Fiza, a former Assistant Advocate-General of Haryana, this past month announcing their marriage and conversion to Islam. Immediately thereafter, he was dismissed from the Haryana Cabinet. Since then he and Ms. Fiza had been staying in Sector 48 (adjoining Mohali) at her mother’s residence.
