CHENNAI: A fresh green garden greets visitors at the head office of the Standard Chartered Bank on Rajaji Salai. The garden is nurtured by compost made at the zero waste centres on the premises. The bank’s employees ensure that food waste is disposed in a separate bin. This organic waste is composted in cement tanks. The bank also recycles its paper and plastic waste. On Wednesday, Exnora International presented the Exnora Green Bank Award to the bank. Presenting the award, S. Balaji, Member Secretary, State Forest Commission, said that it was possible for people to live in harmony with nature even in a city like Chennai which generates about 3,500 tonnes of garbage everyday. M.Rafeeque Ahmed, Chairman of the Tamil Nadu State Council of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry appreciated the bank and Exnora for their efforts in contributing to cutting down pollution. Inder Sandhu, Regional Operations Manager – South (Corporate Real Estate Services), Standard Chartered Bank, said over a dozen offices of the bank in Chennai and Bangalore had been composting and recyclingfor over nine months. Exnora International Founder M.B. Nirmal spoke.
