Selected will get admission in sports schools, academies and hostels Authorities get overwhelming response from rural areas VIJAYAWADA: As many as 400 boys and girls, selected during the two-month-long talent search programme organised by the Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh, will be taking part in the two-week advanced coaching camp at Lakireddy Hanimi Reddy Stadium, Mylavaram, from February 2. Speaking to The Hindu on Thursday, District Sports Development Officer B. Sudhakar said that the SAAP had deputed 12 coaches, representing various sports disciplines, to conduct advanced battery and motor tests on the selected youngsters. “This is an assessment camp. After the camp, the panel of coaches will filter the cream of athletes from Krishna district for admission into various sports schools, academies and hostels in the State,” he pointed out. FacilitiesMr. Sudhakar said the trainees would be provided lodging and boarding facilities at the venue itself. “Nearly 45,000 boys and girls from the 49 mandals of the district were tested. The programme was completed smoothly primarily owing to the support extended by physical education teachers, District Sports Authority coaches and officials of the Education Department,” he said. Similar advanced training camps would be conducted from February 2 in all the districts in the State. Mr. Sudhakar said the response from the rural areas to the sports talent search programme conducted for youngsters in the age group of 8 to 12 was overwhelming. However, the sports administrators were sceptical about the turnout of athletes to the Mylavaram camp owing to the forthcoming annual examinations. “Some parents may not be willing to send their children to the two-week long camp, as it might hamper their academic interests. But those who wish to see their wards flourish in the sports and games will certainly send their children,” hoped Mr. Sudhakar.
