3 jump into Cooum to avoid police, held

CHENNAI: Three persons, who did not stop their motorcycle for routine vehicle checking on Wednesday night, abandoned their vehicle on Sivananda Road and jumped into the Cooum when they were chased by the police.

They were rescued and taken into custody.

Police identified them as Manikandan (19) of Teynampet, Gowthaman (18) of Island Grounds and Vinod (18) of Adambakkam.

They were speeding on a motorcycle when they were stopped as part of a routine vehicle checking exercise. When they did not stop, a police team chased them.

They abandoned the motorcycle and jumped into the Cooum.

Motorcycle stolen at Adyar

During interrogation, Manikandan and Gowthaman confessed to having stolen the motorcycle at Adyar.

They had stolen a motorcycle on an earlier occasion which they sold to an agent in Gingee.
