Mega civic amenities project cleared

HYDERABAD: A big Rs. 1,544-crore municipal amenities project, for which the State government is negotiating with the World Bank to get an assistance of Rs. 1,191 crore by March was cleared by the Cabinet at its meeting here, on Thursday.
As part of the project named AP Urban Reforms and Municipal Services project (APURMSP), drinking water supply, sanitation and solid waste management schemes will be taken up and urban self-help groups built up in municipalities, especially those not covered by Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission.
Information Minister A. Ramanarayan Reddy said the State would contribute Rs. 353 crore to the project which would be implemented for five years from 2009.
Act amendment
The Cabinet resolved to extend the benefit of being appointed in government posts on compassionate grounds to the eligible physically-challenged persons also in the families whose members died or were injured in naxalite/communal violence. The relevant Act would be amended during the ensuing Assembly session. Medical camps would be held to determine the degree of disability.
Approval was given to Indira Kranti Pathakam being launched from February 15 .
