Hebri (Udupi district): Home Minister V.S. Acharya said on Thursday that there was no proposal before the State Government to ban Sri Rama Sene. Speaking to presspersons here, Dr. Acharya said the Government would take stern action against those involved in the Mangalore pub attack. The police had arrested 32 people in connection with the incident. “We will take severe action against the culprits. Some people had put the tapes of the attack on the Internet. An advocate and a relative of a Congress corporator appear to be involved in the attack. There appears to be a conspiracy to tarnish the image of the BJP Government,” he said. On the notices issued to some television channel reporters, he said that no action would be taken against them. “We issued notices only to get information regarding the attack on the pub. These notices have not been withdrawn,” he said. Stating that the State Government would only collect information on Sene president Pramod Muthalik having shared the dais with Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and Congress MP Suresh Kalmadi at the fifth Bahubhashik Brahmin Mahadhiveshan in Pune on January 25. “We will not be investigating the matter,” he said. On the alleged threat by the Sene that it would attack pubs in Manipal, he said that such issues would be dealt with sternly. To a question on the illegal pubs in the State, he said that it was a violation of the law and it would be dealt with accordingly. “As per the existing law, liquor should not be served after 11.30 p.m.,” he said. ‘Political mileage’Earlier, BJP spokesman C.T. Ravi said that there were numerous attacks on women in the States ruled by the Congress, which that party had conveniently forgotten. But, the Bharatiya Janata Party Government had taken quick action in the Mangalore pub attack case. “There is no connection between the BJP and the Sri Ram Sene,” he said. The Congress and the Janata Dal (Secular) were politicising the Mangalore pub attack to gain political mileage. The Congress had criticised the State Government for holding awareness programmes for students on terrorism. “What is wrong with such programmes?” he asked.
