Sub-inspector, two others suspended

They had allegedly doctored an FIR

Chitradurga: A sub-inspector and two other policemen were suspended here on Friday for allegedly showing false information in a case relating to gambling.

The suspended officials are: sub-inspector T. Subhashchandra, head constable U.C. Jayanna and constable Srinivas — all of whom were attached to the Kote police station here.

According to sources in the department, about a fortnight ago, the police personnel had conducted a raid in Kelagote area where some people were allegedly gambling.

From the spot, they arrested 10 persons and reportedly recovered a huge sum of money. However, they allegedly produced false information showing poor recovery, following which the arrested persons (now out on bail) were said to have complained to Superintendent of Police Labhu Ram stating that the amount recovered was huge, but was understated in the FIR.

They alleged that the policemen had distributed the rest among themselves.

‘Inquiry on’

Acting on the complaint, Mr. Labhu Ram ordered the suspension of the officials. Although he did not reveal the amount of money involved, he said the inquiry was on.

He, however, added that the officials would remain under suspension till the inquiry was over.
