TAKE THAT! L. Sarita Devi (left) was merciless as she dispatched Tamil Nadu’s G. Parveen with ease in their 54kg quarterfinal bout on Friday.

Erode: World Cup bronze medallist and three-time Asian champion L. Sarita Devi of All India Police outclassed Tamil Nadu’s G. Parveen and entered the 54kg class semifinal in the women’s Federation Cup boxing championship at the VOC Stadium ring here on Friday.

The 27-year-old Police powerhouse came pretty hard and quick, soon after the opening bell, and the host’s hope was all shaken up.

But despite all the early battering, which flowed in smoothly from all angles, the young girl from Tamil Nadu hung on bravely for another round.

The second round was as power-packed as the first, with Sarita smashing Parveen at every given opportunity.

The latter tried moving away from the heat of the battle and when pushed to the corner fought in spurts.

But the World Cup specialist showed no mercy and punished Parveen so much that the referee decided to stop the contest midway through.

"I did not go flat out as I was aware it would be an easy contest. I am waiting for the big day," said Sarita soon after the bout.

In the 48kg class, E. Thulasi of Tamil Nadu was up in a similar situation against Janabi of All India Police. The latter picked the former apart with some deadly punches before the referee intervened.
