Malik Sports wins trophy

NEW DELHI: A fine spell by left-arm spinner Vivek Verma (three for 19) and a patient 43 by skipper Nitin Sharma guided Malik Sports to a 10-run victory over Indian Air Force in the final of the 13th Sahibzada Ajit Singh cricket tournament at the Sri Guru Gobind Singh College ground, Pitampura, on Friday.

Manoj Lohia (27) and J.P. Singh (20) chipped in with useful contributions to bolster the innings of Malik Sports. Pankaj Kumar and Abhishek Sakuja bagged three wickets each while Suraj Yadav took two, in restricting the total.

Chasing 184, IAF could not sustain the good work of Devender Israni (29), V. Sreejith (24) and Soumik Chatterjee (20). Sharad Kumar and Rajiv Rawat took two wickets each to support Vivek Verma in fashioning a memorable victory.

Indian Air Force had something to cheer about as Soumik Chatterjee and Abhishek Sakuja won the best batsman and best bowler awards respectively.

Vivek Verma was adjudged the man of the match and Rajiv Rawat man of the series.

Malik Sports 183 in 39 overs (Nitin Sharma 43) beat Indian Air Force 173 in 38.3 overs. — Special Correspondent
