BVBP ( Ramachandrapuram) enters semifinals

HYDERABAD: Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Public School (Ramachandrapuram) defeated Kendriya Vidyalaya No. 1 (Uppal) 5-1 in the quarterfinals of the fifth Vemparala Purushotham memorial inter-schools hockey tournament here on Friday.

V. Sai Kiran scored one goal and Vasanth and Imran Khan two each for the winner while Praveen Kumar slotted the lone goal for the loser.

Other results:

Vemparala Purushotham memorial: Quarterfinal: Hyderabad Public School, Begumpet 3 (Vinod 2, Nageshwar Rao) bt CRPF ‘A’ 1 (Bilal Khan).

‘B’ division: Secunderabad Sporting 5 (Haseeb 2, Nagaraj, Sai Kiran, Taher) bt Deccan Stars 0.

Independent Club 5 (J. Sainath 2, Srikanth Yadav, Shivaiah and Srinivas) bt Friends Club 0.

AOC finished third

AOC Centre defeated EME Centre 3-1 and finished third in the SAAP Budweiser Premier League football championship here.

B.K. Somji put AOC ahead in the very first minute and within three minutes V.V. Lateesh increased the margin. In the 44th minute, EME reduced the margin when Charles was on target. However, just before the break, Lal Jaw Saun scored the third goal for AOC to settle the issue.

MRIT moves up

Malla Reddy Institute of Technology (Kompally) entered the semifinals of the inaugural JNTU inter-collegiate football tournament with a 1-0 win over MGIT (Hyderabad) at Dundigal near here.

The results (quarterfinals): JNTU, Kukatpally 2 bt Christhu Jyothi Engg. 0; Nizam Institute of Technology 1 bt SVIT 0; St. Mary’s Engg. 1 bt CMR Institute of Technology 0; MRIT, Kompally 1 bt MGIT, Hyderabad 0.

Wesley wins

Wesley Degree College recorded a 24-run win over Nizam College in the quarterfinals of the Osmania University inter-college cricket tournament.

The scores (quarterfinals): Wesley Degree College 306 for four in 35 overs (Rajneesh 88, Azmath Khan 65, Samiullah Khan 57) bt Nizam College 282 for nine.

Easy for Grand Hustlers

Grand Hustlers recorded a seven-wicket win over Friends XI in the V. Hanumanth Rao prize money cricket tournament here.

The scores: Friends XI 131 for eight (Siddhu four for 18) lost to Grand Hustlers 132 for three (Siddheswar 50 not out, Rohit 66 not out).

Hyderabad University 153 for six bt Blues Uppal 86 (Arif four for 10).

Rohit in last four

M. Rohit entered the boys’ under-10 semifinal with a 6-4 win over A. Rahul in the Twin Ci Tennis Academy mini-junior tennis tournament here.

The results (quarterfinals):

Boys: Under-10: M. Rohit bt A. Rahul 6-4; A.K. Rohit bt C. Abhinav Reddy 6-5(8); P.C. Anirudh bt S. Himakesh 6-5(7).

Under-12: A. Akhil Varma bt Sri Ranga Saihyan 6-0; Govind Rao bt G.V. Sai Kiran 6-2.

Vizzy Trophy cricket

Osmania University will host the All-India inter-varsity cricket tournament for the Vizzy Trophy from February 2 to 10 at Gymkhana Grounds and Rajiv Gandhi Stadium (Uppal) here.

Prof. T. Tirupati Rao, Vice-Chancellor, OU, will inaugurate while N. Shivlal Yadav, BCCI Vice-President and D.S. Chalapathi, Joint Secretary, HCA, will be the guests of honour.
