Stone to be laid for cooperative hospital

Staff Reporter

ALAPPUZHA: The foundation stone for a Cooperative Hospital, which will function as a satellite unit of the Kochi Cooperative Medical College run by the Cooperative Academy of Professional Education (CAPE), will be laid at Punnapra near here at 10 a.m. on February 1.

In a statement here on Friday, Cooperation and Coir Minister G. Sudhakaran said the Rs.5 crore-hospital was being set up with funds mobilised from the cooperative sector for tsunami rehabilitation.

The aim was to complete the construction of the hospital and get it functioning this year itself, he said.

The 75-bed hospital, which would have all modern healthcare infrastructure, would offer free healthcare to women and children from the fishing community. The rest of the public would be offered treatment on rates lesser than those charged at other hospitals, Mr. Sudhakaran said.

State Cooperative Union chairman E. Narayanan would preside over the foundation stone-laying ceremony. The stone would be laid by Mr. Sudhakaran in the presence of K.S. Manoj, C.S. Sujatha, MPs, District Panchayat president R. Nazar, Municipal Chairman P.P. Chitharanjan, District Collector V.K. Balakrishnan and others.
