Nigerian held for drug smuggling

CHENNAI: Officials of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence arrested a Nigerian national in Visakhapatnam on Friday on charges of smuggling heroin through courier parcels.

The officials intercepted four parcels booked at Tirupati and bound for South Africa, Spain, Belgium and China. The Nigerian had booked the parcels, containing the contraband, at various courier offices, declaring them as notebooks.

Concealed

When the parcels were scrutinised, the authorities found 975 grams of heroin and 200 grams of Methylphenidate, kept concealed inside hardbound books.

Again on Thursday, the authorities found four courier parcels booked in Visakhapatnam with various courier services. They were bound for South Africa and the Netherlands. When the DRI authorities checked the parcels, they contained 975 grams of heroin.
