Rajahmundry
Rajahmundry: V. Dinesh Reddy, Vice-Chairman and Managing Director of APSRTC, has categorically stated that RTC is not going to reduce charges even though diesel prices have come down. Addressing a press conference on Friday after inauguration of RTC athletics meet here, he said RTC had increased fares only in 2003. Then the Union government had increased oil prices three times, which burdened Rs. 300 crores to RTC. But, “We have not increased fares on the three occasions. We have reduced our burden from Rs.300 to Rs.100 crores and now we are trying to completely come out of this Rs.100 crores burden with oil price reduction.” Answering to a question he said occupancy rate had increased to 72 percent. Mr. Dinesh Reddy attributed this increase to running in maximum number of ‘Palle Velugu’ buses to rural areas, ‘Meghamala’, `Meghadoot’ and ‘Garuda’ in big towns. He said 3,800 new buses would be added to its fleet and 500 buses taken on rent this year. .
