Mining engineers honoured

NEYVELI: Mining engineers from across the country were honoured on the occasion of the 20th National Convention of Mining Engineers-2009 held on the NLC campus here on Friday.
The convention was organised by the Neyveli chapter of The Institution of Engineers (India) and the Neyveli Lignite Corporation. It took stock of existing mining practices, safety rules, advances in technology and so on.
The engineers who were honoured with a citation and shawl are as follows:
M.M. Sharma, Director-General of Mines Safety, Dhanbad, A.R. Ansari, Chairman-cum-Managing Director of NLC, Sashi Kumar, former Chairman of Coal India Ltd, B. Akala, former CMD of Central Mine Planning and Design Institution Ltd., S.S. Rathore, HOD, Maharana Pratap University of Agriculture and Technology, Udaipur. R. Bhaskaran, former NLC Director (Mines), K. Gowrappan, adviser, Madras Cements Ltd., Satish Puri, Deputy Director-General of Mines Safety, Southern Zone, B. Ramesh Kumar, former CMD, National Minerals Development Corporation, and Chandramohan, Member, Mining Engineering Division Board of The Institution of Engineers.
Those who participated in the convention included J.P. Barnwal, Chairman, Mining Engineering Division Board, Institution of Engineers, B. Surender Mohan, NLC Director (Mines) and Chairman of the Neyveli chapter of the institution, and K. Chakkaravarthi, honorary secretary of the institution.
