Hoax: The object resembling a bomb, on display at the police station in Jagalur in Davangere district on Saturday. DAVANGERE: Tension prevailed for a while on National Highway 13 (Bangalore-Sholapur Road) near Kalledevarapura in Jagalur taluk on Saturday as a bomb-like object was found on the roadside. People of the village who noticed it, immediately informed the police. The police rushed to the spot, but were confused as to what it was. They in turn informed their superiors, who then summoned the bomb disposal squad from Chitradurga. However, a few policemen, who moved the object with long sticks, said it was not a bomb, but an object shaped as such and possibly created by mischief makers. The object actually comprised cotton packed in an aluminium frame rolled up in newspaper and tied with wire. It was shaped like a bulb. The aluminium wires around the object forced people into believing that it was a bomb. The village people, while on their way to their fields, noticed the object early in the morning. Traffic on the highway was disrupted for sometime as a result. Superintendent of Police Sandeep Patil, who rushed to Jagalur, confirmed that it was not a bomb. He told presspersons there that some mischief makers might have done this to scare people. He appreciated the people’s presence of mind, while referring to the immediate police response.
