Refund of interest demanded

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: Senior BJP leader Vijay Goel called on Union Urban Development Minister Jaipal Reddy over the weekend and demanded that only those working or living in the Capital should be allowed to take part in the draw of lots for Delhi Development Authority flats in future.

Mr. Goel demanded refund of interest on the money deposited by applicants while filing applications for the DDA Housing Scheme-2008.

“Housing schemes are not lotteries and it makes no sense to have them for people residing hundreds and thousands of kilometres away from Delhi,” said Mr. Goel. He said the DDA had collected Rs.9,000 crore through applications and earned a profit of nearly Rs.475 crore as interest on the amount. Mr. Goel also demanded immediate promulgation of an Ordinance to provide relief from sealing in the Capital.
