PUDUKOTTAI: With a view to sensitising the volunteers of the Youth Red Cross, a day-long special disaster management training was organised here recently.
The volunteers, in all numbering 60, were exposed to a mock drill in which the ‘victims’ of critical situations such as floods, fire mishaps and cyclone undergo serious ordeals and the steps to rescue them.
“We taught the importance of basic principles of the first aid techniques,” said the Programme Organiser of the Youth Red Cross, S. Viswanathan.
The Senior Surgeon, Government Hospital, Valayapatti, G. Edwin, demonstrated simple techniques to protect those with burns during a fire mishap.
Resource-persons from the Fire Service and Rescue Department, Subramanian, Purushothaman and Singaram, gave useful tips on handling those drowned.
They showed how to release the water from the stomach and liver for the restoration of the functioning of respiratory organs.
The faculty from Bishop Heber College, Tiruchi, V.K. Boominathan, delivered a lecture on ‘leadership qualities.’
