‘Instil love for classical music among children’

Special Correspondent

SHIMOGA: Noted singer Shimoga Subbanna on Sunday said that there was a need for parents to instil love for classical music among hildren even after they win prizes in television reality shows.

He was speaking after being felicitated jointly by the Sundara Prakashana of Bangalore, Vidya Ganapati Seva Sangha of Shimoga and Mayuri Cultural Forum of Shimoga.

The strength of Sugama Sangeetha lies in its capacity to convey hopes and aspirations of poets effectively to listeners as the raga and taala in it acted only as the media, Mr. Subbanna said. If light music had been able to reach the masses it was mainly because of its rich lyrical strength. “I have received several awards and felicitations in appreciation of my achievements in Sugama Sangeetha field. But felicitation being accorded to me in my home town is of special significance to me”, he said.
