Raichur: The members of the district unit of the Students Federation of India (SFI) staged a dharna here on Monday to protest against the decision of the State Government to hold a campaign against terrorism to create greater awareness and to sensitise students on the issue. The protesters led by Shivakumar Kyadigera, general secretary of the district unit of the SFI, took out a procession in the city and staged the dharna at Ambedkar Circle. Memorandum
They burnt an effigy of Minister for Higher Education Aravind Limbavali. Later, they submitted a memorandum to the district administration urging the Government not to organise awareness programmes in schools and colleges which would spread communal feelings among students. In the memorandum, they alleged that the BJP Government in the State had been trying to utilise the student body for political mileage by organising “communal-based” awareness camps. Such an act would harm the secular feelings among students forcing them to spread communal feelings in society. Further, it would help anti-social elements to take advantage of the situation, they added. They appealed to the Government to shelve all proposals which would affect communal harmony among students.
