‘Produce Seetaram before court’

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: The Karnataka High Court on Monday directed the State Government to produce B.V. Seetaram, chairman and managing director of Chitra Publications Limited, provided he is fit to travel from K.R. Hospital jail ward in Mysore where he has been admitted.

A Division Bench comprising Justice S.R. Bannurmath and Justice A.N. Venugopala Gowda passed the order on a habeas corpus petition by S. Rohini, wife of Mr. Seetaram.

The Bench said Mr. Seetaram could be produced in court provided the doctors attending on him agreed to move him from Mysore to Bangalore.

When the matter came up, the Government advocate contended that the warrants issued against Mr. Seetaram were withdrawn on Sunday.

The Bench, which went through the records of the lower court, sought to know the reason for the discrepancy in one of the orders in which Mr. Seetaram’s remand was not extended (in writing).

The Government advocate said the State was not a party to the case and that the warrants were issued following a defamation case.

The Bench adjourned further hearing of the case to Tuesday.
