Court throws out plea against toll
Staff Reporter
BANGALORE: The Karnataka High Court on Monday dismissed a public interest litigation (PIL) petition against the collection of toll by Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprise (NICE) on the peripheral road and link road built as part of the Bangalore-Mysore Infrastructure Corridor Enterprise project (BMICP).
The collection of toll had become contentious with people divided over it. A majority of the motorists had felt that the toll was too steep, while those opposed to the project had moved the court seeking a direction to NICE not to collect toll.
The BMICP envisages construction of an elevated expressway between Bangalore and Mysore and several townships. NICE, which had built the 41-kilometre peripheral road connecting Tumkur Road to Hosur Road, had begun collecting toll on this stretch.
Nagaraj, a Dalit Sangharsha Samiti (DSS) convener, had petitioned the court against the toll saying the road did not belong to NICE but to the Bangalore Development Authority.
