A doyen

Tamil cinema has lost one of the greatest actors of all times in the death of Nagesh. He was not only a comedian but a complete artist who brought spontaneity and life to every character he portrayed in films.

But for the fact that he acted in a regional language, he would have been ranked alongside the legendary Charlie Chaplin.

The passing away of master comedian Nagesh has created a void in Tamil cinema. Films such as Server Sundaram, Pattanathil Bootham, and Thillanna Mohanambal will forever remain etched in the memory of movie-goers. I regard Nagesh as a versatile actor, rather than a comedian, who could handle any role with utmost ease and extraordinary innovation and creativity.

The demise of veteran comedian and versatile actor Nagesh is a great loss to the Tamil film industry.

His acting in the film Ethir Neechal directed by K. Balachander was a masterpiece.

In the death of Nagesh, Tamil filmdom has lost an ace comedian. He belonged to the era when film was not infected by vulgar comedy. His lithe movements and dialogue delivery made him carve a niche for himself. Many of his comedy tracts are a perennial source of entertainment for people of all age groups.

The news of Nagesh’s death came as a rude shock to his admirers. He was a versatile actor. Despite not possessing great looks, he won many hearts. Sadly, the actor was not honoured enough with awards he richly deserved. His era was eventful and he ruled the silver screen for quite some time. Though he is no more, his roles will be remembered forever.

Indian cinema has lost one of its doyens in the passing of Nagesh. He was an actor par excellence. He had a sense of humour which many others could only dream of possessing. Nagesh was a self-taught man who believed that an actor could learn from life. He deserved better recognition. The history of Indian cinema will never be complete without a mention of Nagesh’s name.

Like Kalaivanar N.S. Krishnan, Chandra Babu and Thangavelu, Nagesh carved a niche for himself in filmdom and earned great acclaim for his excellent acting. He lived the characters he played on screen and many films celebrated jubilees thanks to his presence. It is unfortunate that a veteran of his stature was not even considered for a Padma award.
