Many electricity lines are hanging low at Mangudi of Thiruthuraipoondi Taluk. It is dangerous to passersby. I request officials to solve the problem quickly. P.V. Nadimuthu, Mangudi. Re-lay roads Most of the roads in New Housing Unit area in Thanjavur are in a bad condition. For two-wheeler riders, it is a nightmare when they travel, particularly during rainy season. In addition, the roads have not been re-laid properly after digging them for under ground drainage system. R. Ganesh, Thanjavur. Welcome feature The recently introduced token-counter system for withdrawal and deposit at the Thanjavur Main branch of the State Bank of India is a welcome feature. With this facility, the workload is equally distributed at cash counters. The customers also feel satisfied as their waiting time is justified. I request the State Bank of India authorities to provide one more counter for updating the pass book as the queue is unduly occupying the whole space for long time, causing inconvenience to the other customers. N. Natarajan, Thanjavur. Extend train serviceDuring the earlier MG days, there was direct train link from Chennai to Tiruvanathapuram through the mainline connecting important stations like Cuddalore, Chidambaram, Mayiladuturai, Kumbakonam and Thanjavur. Now passengers have to go to Tiruchi to board train to go to Tiruvananthapuram or Cochin. I request the authorities to extend the Tiruchi-Cochin Express to Mayiladuturai until the mainline conversion is completed. They can have a link express to Velankanni also once that line is completed. Since a lot of Christians are visiting Velankanni from Kottayam, Changanasseri and Tiruvalla, the train can be extended to Quilon also.
George Thomas, Kumbakonam. Stray dog menace If late, the number of stray dogs in LIC Colony, Thanjavur is on the increase. The residents are too scared to walk freely. And the case of two-wheeler riders is no better. Very often these dogs chase two-wheelers. Recently, a dog not only chased a motor-bike to some distance, but when the rider stopped, it pounced on his pillion-rider wife and bit her leg. Vengarai S.Raman, Thanjavur.
