Identification parade of twin blasts case accused soon

Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: A test identification parade of two of the three terror suspects brought from Mumbai to Hyderabad will be conducted soon in connection with their alleged involvement in the case of twin blasts at Lumbini Park and Gokul Chat in August 2007.

Officials of the Organisation to Counter Terrorism Operations (Octopus), who brought them here on Sunday, moved a local court seeking to conduct the test identification parade.

Some persons hailing from Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh, identified as witnesses by Octopus will take part in the parade to identify the accused persons.

Crucial part

Investigators believe this parade would be the first and crucial part of building up the case.

Already, they had confessed to their complicity in the twin blasts as part of the Indian Mujahideen terrorist module after being arrested by Mumbai’s ATS squad in October last.

Strong case

“Except the possible complicity of locals, there is little to be probed afresh. Hence, we’re focussing on making it a strong case for conviction,” a top official said.

The investigators identified the persons who were present at the two blast sites and the Dilsukhnagar foot overbridge, the place where the third IED was planted but defused later by the police as it did not explode.

While Riyaz Bhatkal alias Ahmad planted the bomb at Gokul Chat, Aneeq Sayid and Akbar Ismail Chowdhary kept one each at Lumbini Park and Dilsukhnagar foot overbridge.

While Riyaz Bhatkal is still at large, other members of the I.M. were caught by the Mumbai ATS officials.
