Empowerment of women stressed

ANANTAPUR: Chairperson of Anantapur Zilla Parishad T. Kavitha has stressed the need for empowerment of women and youth in Panchayat Raj institutions for better functioning of the institutions and better reach of government schemes to the people.
Speaking at the Rayalaseema divisional level meeting of ‘Panchayat Mahila Evam Yuvashakthi Abhiyan (PMEYSA) here on Tuesday she felt that women were lagging behind in all sectors and their empowerment was must for their progress. They need to have better awareness and understanding of the panchayat raj systems to achieve empowerment.
She stressed the need for periodical training on the three-tier panchayat raj system and their powers, functions, funds and responsibilities.
They also needed better social and political awareness for achieving empowerment, she felt.
State Chairperson of PMEYSA K. Vijaya Syamala and others also spoke at the meeting attended by ward members, sarpanches, MPTC members and ZPTC members. The participants were also explained about the Right to Information Act.
