SMOOTH WAY: Two way traffic on the Gandhi Mandapam flyover for three hours in the evening from Tuesday is expected to decongest traffic in the area.

CHENNAI: With the opening of the Gandhi Mandapam flyover for two-way traffic, for three hours from 5 p.m., on Tuesday, the flow of vehicles from the Madhya Kailash junction towards Raj Bhavan was smooth.

With traffic police making necessary arrangements, at least half the number of vehicles plying in that direction took the flyover. Over 100 cones lined the flyover to prevent vehicles from violating lanes.

A traffic constable with a baton was posted at the spot where vehicles proceeding towards Raj Bhavan climbed onto the flyover. Only light vehicles were allowed on the flyover.

The police personnel made announcements over a microphone about the new two-way system near Anna Univesity side. Additional police force had also been posted at the spot. Senior traffic police officials visited the spot.

G.Anuradha, a two-wheeler rider, who took the flyover, said that a board a few metres ahead of the flyover would be very helpful to the motorists. K.Senthamarai, an autorickshaw driver, said it would take time for motorists to get used to the new regulation, which, however, was a welcome change.
