VISAKHAPATNAM: Team title holder in the men’s and women’s sections, Chennai dominated the first day of the 31st all-India Major Ports athletics meet, winning five events, at the Port Diamond Jubilee stadium here on Wednesday. Prasad and Selva Rani emerged the fastest man and woman of the meet. Host Visakhapatnam made it 1-2 in the men’s hammer throw through M. Kameswara Rao and V.V.V.S.N. Murthy. Deputy Chairman of Visakhapatnam Port Trust M.S. Rao inaugurated the meet. The results: Men: 100m: 1. Prasad (Che); 2. M. Arasamuthu (Tuti); 3. Rajgopal Majhi (Para). 800m: 1. Pradeep (Che); 2. M. Avinash Kumar; 3. M. Karthik (both Tuti). Long jump: 1. Biju Joseph (Coch); 2. Prasad; 3. T. Sateesh (both Tuti). Shot put: 1. Razeen; 2. R. Krishnamoorthy (both Che); 3. V.B.S. Singh (Mum).
