“Contact Zone”, a first of its kind service to come up at any Indian airport
Facilities include assistance for physically disabled passengers & unaccompanied minors NEW DELHI: Delhi International Airport Limited has set up a new facility at Indira Gandhi International Airport here to cater to passengers with special needs. “Contact Zone”, a first of its kind service to come up at any Indian airport, has been established near Gate 1 of Terminal 2. “It will provide facilities for passengers with special needs. This would include, among others, wheelchair assistance for physically disabled passengers, and assistance for unaccompanied minors,” said a DIAL official on Wednesday. “Till now facilitation for passengers needing special assistance was coordinated by the airlines. However, as those accompanying the passengers are not allowed inside the terminal, passengers face difficulty in the drop-off zone. The ‘Contact Zone’ is aimed at bridging this gap,” he added. DIAL has also reserved two parking bay slots in the Contact Zone for vehicles of travellers who need wheelchairs. Customer service executives and porters have also been deputed for coordination at the new facility. Departure formalities“While the passengers wait in the special area provided, the executive posted at the Contact Zone will in turn communicate with the airline concerned for deputing its staff to help complete the departure formalities,” the official said.
