Four arrested for using fake credit cards

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: The Central Crime Branch police arrested four persons, including a woman, on charges of using fake credit cards to purchase jewellery from different shops on Wednesday.

According to police, Jesi, Babu, Chandru of Tiruchi and Binu Kumar of Ambattur used fake credit cards to purchase gold ornaments and expensive mobile phones in recent weeks.

Their modus operandi was to incorporate the account particulars of foreign nationals in the magnetic strip of the fake credit card.

Though the card reader when swiped would approve the purchase at retail outlets, the banker would not release the money. Based on a tip-off, the CCB police arrested the four persons.

While a leading private bank has lodged a complaint, other banks, jewellery shops and mobile phone outlets were also expected to give specific complaints soon.
