60TH BIRTHDAY: D. Veerendra Heggade of Srikshetra Dharmasthala being felicitated by various seers in Dharwad on Thursday. DHARWAD: Amid a large number of well wishers and followers and a host of dignitaries, including several seers, Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari D. Veerendra Heggade was given a grand and warm felicitation at JSS College here on Thursday. The felicitation programme organised to mark the 60th birthday of Dr. Heggade, who has been actively involved in the field of social service through his institutions’ rural development programmes. The felicitation programme began with a colourful procession comprising mainly folk artistes presenting “chande maddale”, “yakshagana”, “keelu kudure” and other folk arts from the Dr Veerendra Heggade Institute of Management Studies and Research, which was inaugurated on Thursday. Before the formal felicitation programme began speakers, including Sri Shivaratrishwara Deshikendra Swamiji of Suttur Math, journalist Patil Puttappa, litterateur Chennaveera Kanavi, showered praises on Dr. Heggade for his contributions to society. The swamiji said Dr. Heggade had given a new dimension to the field of social service through his works. Releasing a book, “Jeevan Shikshana”, Dr. Puttappa said that Dr. Heggade was leading a life based on the basic tenets of Jainism. Releasing a book, “Chennudi”, Dr. Kanavi was all praise for Dr. Heggade. Speaker Jagadish Shettar said Dr. Heggade was instrumental in transforming Dharmasthala into a centre for social change. After these showers of praises, Dr. Heggade was felicitated by all seers, including Sri Vishvesha Tirtha Swamiji of Pejwar, the seer of Suttur Math, Sri Tontada Siddhalinga Swamiji and Sri Shivayogi Swamiji of Murugha Math, with a shawl, garland, a citation and a memento. A host of dignitaries including Chairman of the Legislative Council Veeranna Mattikatti, Minister Basavaraj Bommai, MP Pralhad Joshi, and MLAs Chandrakanth Bellad and Seema Masuti, were present. The grand felicitation began with a Gamaka Vaachana.
