KHAMMAM: Balasani Lakshminarayana, MLC and Telugu Desam leader, attributed his growth in politics to the importance given to the backward classes by the TDP leadership. He was felicitated by different organisations on his election to the legislative council in the town on Thursday. Speaking on the occasion, the TDP leader said he joined the party responding to the call given by party founder N. T. Rama Rao and never craved for positions. They came on their own. Though he had come from a remote forest pocket, the party had given him due importance by recognising the hard work put in by him. He said only the Telugu Desam could safeguard the interests of the backward classes in the State. He would strive for the uplift of the disadvantaged sections irrespective of their caste, creed and political affiliation, he said and pledged his support for every move that was aimed at giving a helping hand to the weaker sections.
