‘Negligence’ of NH-9 criticised

HYDERABAD: BJP member G. Kishen Reddy staged a walkout in the Assembly on Thursday protesting against the “negligent” attitude of the Government in developing National Highway 9, which connects State capital with Vijayawada.

The members belonging to CPI, CPI (M) and TRS also registered their protest and accused the Government of neglecting the development of NH 9, which they said was accounting for a large number of road accident deaths. Uma Madhav Reddy (TDP) termed the Minister’s reply as ‘irresponsible’.

Earlier replying to the main question, Home Minister K. Jana Reddy informed P. Venkata Reddy (CPI) and others that 17,279 people were killed in road accidents on National Highways in the State between 2005 and 2008. Government was taking all steps to prevent accidents. As a result of the steps initiated there was a decline in the trend when compared to 2000-2005, he said.
