Spurious liquor factory unearthed

PUDUKOTTAI: A factory manufacturing spurious Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) was unearthed at Lakshmanapatti on the borders of Pudukottai and Tiruchi districts on Thursday.

Police seized 10,752 bottles of spurious brandy from the factory, functioning from the backyard of a farmhouse. Superintendent of Police, P. Moorthy, who inspected the site, said the modus operandi was to mix rectified spirit with preservatives and colouring agents.

The value of the seizure was estimated about Rs.10 lakh. Mr. Moorthy told The Hindu that a group of four persons, all workers involved in the manufacture of the spurious liquor, had been rounded up and further investigation was on. A hunt was on for the factory owner. — Staff Reporter
