Fitting tribute to a poet

Be it “Aap ki yaad aati rahi raat bhar …” or “Phir chidi raat baat phulaon ki ..”, one unwittingly keeps crooning the lyrics of Makhdoom Mohiuddin. Years after he passed away, Makhdoom’s soulful verses continue to charm the two-day birth centenary celebrations of the revolutionary poet concluded on Thursday, the city sang paeans of Makhdoom.

Several literary circles, including the Anjuman-e-Taraqqi Pasand Musannafin, organised special talks on the works and personality of the great poet. Particularly, the soft corner Makhdoom had for the poor, peasants and working class was highlighted.

And so were the ghazals and nazms which reflected his concern.
