Tirupur: Vice-Chancellor of Anna University-Coimbatore R. Radhakrishnan inaugurated the school of fashion established by Tirupur Industrial Federation (TIF), a consortium of various textile associations, in collaboration with F-Labs, Coimbatore, under Cluster Development Programme of Textiles Committee, Government of India, here on Thursday.
D. Dhandapani, Deputy Director of Textiles Committee, said that the school was set up with an aim to produce more skilled designers for different segments of the textile manufacturing since designing plays a pivotal role in giving value-addition to the apparel.
At present, designing component has not been given adequate attention by the entrepreneurs in the Tirupur knitwear cluster and it remains a decrepit link in the sector, he added. President of TIF, Ahil Mani, said that the school would offer an array of tailor-made designer courses to suit the needs of knitwear industry here.
It included an advanced diploma course and a diploma course in Fashion Designing for fresh candidates as well as to the workforce employed in the garment sector.
Cluster Development Executive of Textiles Committee G. Venugopal was present.
