Pakistan must conduct thorough probe: Ban

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Thursday said it was important for Islamabad to conduct a through investigation into Pakistani links to the Mumbai terror attacks.

Expressing these sentiments at a meeting with External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee, Mr. Ban appreciated India’s restraint and patience in dealing with the across-the-border ramifications of the attacks, according to official sources.

In his 45-minute interaction, Mr. Mukherjee emphasised how important it was for Pakistan to undertake a credible investigation to probe and bring to book the masterminds of the attack. He acquainted Mr. Ban with the developments that had taken place in the international arena since these attacks.

The two leaders also discussed the regional situation in Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and Bangladesh.
